Timbercity Cycle Tour: Race report

So Sunday 1 October 2017 was my 1st road race since returning from Italy in June. Unfortunately I was not able to return to Italy due to circumstances out of my and the team’s control. So i was exited to return to racing.

Since the race was on my home turf, Oudtshoorn, I was confident going into the race. These are my training routes so I know them pretty well.

The race started pretty slow with the bunch staying together until we hit the 2nd climb of the day. Four of us rode away from the peloton and caught the 2 man breakaway. Three of us then attacked the group and stayed away until 10 km from the finish. I attacked and managed to stay away managing to pull out a gap of one minute and 25 seconds.

It was great to take the win in my home town and a privilege to share the podium space with the ladies winner Anriette Schoeman, an icon in women’s cycling in South-Africa.

Next up is the Cape Pioneer Trek, a MTB race that I am taking on with Marchal Hendricks of Team D4C who is going to be my partner for the seven days. The event takes place from 15 to 21 October in the Klein-Karoo and Garden Route area. Marchal placed second in the race on Sunday so we will make a pretty good partnership.

So now its time to focus on the mountain bike and try to get myself ready for the adventure. I will try my best to keep you updated, so for now as they say in SA cheers.
