XLVI Gran Premio El Christo

6 August 2016:Today I did the XLVI Grand Prix Christ in the town of Guriezo, one of the last races in Spain for me this year. The race, 90 Km, consisted of 10 laps and 22 climbs with a total ascent of 1528 m. The legs felt good today and I stayed in the front part of the bunch for the first lap where after we were a group of about 40 riders. The bunch thinned out over the next few laps and with 3 laps to go a break went up the road with 3 guys. At that point there were only about 15 guys left in the front group. The last two laps had an extra climb in just to make sure we suffer enough, a 1 km climb with a gradient between 15/18%. With one lap to go I was in a group of 6 guys and I had one of my teammates with me who is also the runner up to the overall competition consisting of races in this region of Spain. It was up to me to chase the breakaway down and give my teammate the chance to win the competition. With 4 km to go I caught the break just before the last climb. I ended up with 6th place on the day and my teammate is one step closer to winning the competition. Tomorrow is another race and hopefully my legs feel as good as today, till next time !
